After touring Munich, we rented a car. This was particularly hilarious since the signs were not in English and our GPS on our phones did not work. I felt like we were having a flash back to the 1980's because we had to buy a paper map. I was a little freaked out because I didn't know exactly how to work the thing. How am I supposed to know exactly where we are on a map if it doesn't point out "You are here"? Luckily, Jake is pretty good at reading paper maps. Granted, he's much wiser being three years older than me.
After renting the car we drove south of Munich to see three of "Mad King Ludwig's" castles. This guy clearly had buttloads of money that he spent very frivolously on building enormous castles. Granted, he was the King at one point, so we will cut him some slack.
One of his castles was used to model the Disney castle. It has a very romantic feel, and it has exquisite views from all the windows in the place since it sits up on a hillside. They were very small towns with a ski feel/midway almost. This is the castle where he grew up. Once he was King or inherited some money, he built his own castle a short distance away from that one. It wasn't completely finished because he died after living there for only two weeks. We attempted to tour another of his castles an hour away but didn't quite make it. We drove out there but by the time we got there it was dark and they stopped allowing people in to tour. That part sucked but at least we got to see it and partake in a beautiful drive through Austria.
On our way out to the other castle, we had to drop down into Austria and use one of their freeways. It was more of a two lane road near the mountains with the frozen lake. Apparently the lake was poisonous and people aren't allowed in it. There were signs everywhere along the road warning people not to get in, or even touch the water. It then gave the very lovable skull and bones picture signaling death. that is understood in every language!
Jake: He loved the drive down there, it was absolutely beautiful. Of course he loved all of the castles as well, especially the view from the valley to the castle. His favorite part had to be driving on the autoban. At one point we thought our car was going to blow up cause we were going too fast. (who cares, it was a rental!) The drive in Austia was another story though. It was beautiful but snowy and a crazy car drive due to the poisonous lake near us. We were both trying so hard not to fall asleep on the way home. The day trip definitely wore us out!

Yep, I took a picture of the sign. It was too funny not to.
